A friend had this rock that looked like a fossil of some sort. My guess was it is limestone because it was not heavy and chipped easily. To me it resembled a tree trunk but other than that I had never seen anything like it and it was a new one to me.
Found in northern Belize
Intriguing since it is light weight, usually not the case for petrified wood or fossilized coral.

Thanks for commenting, Jean. (my brother-in-law Henry has mentioned you.) The problem is this is not my rock, but it is in Spanish Lookout so if you are interested I can point you to the owner.
DeleteJean, upon further research it does look like it could actually be fossilized coral. I am trying to get my hands on one of these pieces myself. Will update if I do.
